Uptown Ties, the club that replaced Uptown Tavern, stopped serving celebrity chef Justin Sutherland’s Northern Soul food months after launching in early 2023.

“Northern Soul was always going to be seasonal with the winter hours and the space only being open for late night weekend events. There was not an opportunity for full food service,” Sutherland said in a message to Southwest Voices.

Uptown Ties opened on Lagoon Avenue in December 2022 with a full dinner and appetizer menu from Northern Soul. The owners of Uptown Ties closed their downtown location, Ties, due to “unforeseen circumstances” after being open for less than a year in 2022.

Uptown Ties launched a food menu called Ties Kitchen in July 2023, and the owners have plans to expand into a double-decker rooftop in the spring.

“We hope to be back in the spring when the rooftop patio opens,” Sutherland said.

Uptown Ties, located at 1400 Lagoon Ave.,  did not respond for comment.
