The James Beard Foundation announced Bûcheron as a finalist for its Best New Restaurant category, announced on Instagram Wednesday afternoon.

The French-American restaurant at 4257 Nicollet Ave. is run by Jeanie Janas Ritter and Adam Ritter. Adam Ritter was previously a chef at Demi, led by Gavin Kaysen. Demi was a James Beard semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in 2020.

Ann Ahmed of Khâluna was nominated this year as an Outstanding Chef semifinalist but did not make the finalist list. Ahmed was a finalist for the Best Chef: Midwest award in 2024 and a semifinalist in the same category in 2023.

Restaurants and chefs can be nominated for a James Beard award through an open call for recommendations. The nomination process is open and free to the public.

The James Beard Foundation awards ceremony will take place June 16 in Chicago. A full list of finalists is available on the James Beard Foundation website.
