Linden Hills is getting a new bookstore when "Comma, a bookshop" (that's their full, official name) opens this weekend.
The store is owned by Victoria Ford, who was raised in South Minneapolis and has roots in Linden Hills. "My first job was at Great Harvest on Upton Avenue; it’s so good to be back in the neighborhood,” Ford said. "I grew up here and knew that it was a community that would support an indie store."
Ford spent much of her career in the nonprofit sector before launching her new venture, and describes her store as a "continuation" of her work there. "Its mission is to build community and draw connections with readers, authors, and ideas," Ford said in a statement. She came up with the idea to start the store when she was laid off during the pandemic and began researching the lack of independent book stores in the area.
The store will carry newly released fiction and nonfiction, gifts, and will prominently feature Minnesota authors and makers, just in time for holiday shopping.
A grand opening celebration will be held on Small Business Saturday (this Saturday, November 26) from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. The celebration will include giveaways, special offers, and complimentary snacks and drinks.
Comma, a bookshop is located at 4250 Upton Ave S in Linden Hills.
