Jazz Hampton, the CEO and general counsel for TurnSignl, announced his candidacy for Minneapolis mayor on Thursday morning. His announcement focused on his legal background and what he sees as “gridlock” in the City’s leadership.
Hampton created TurnSignl, an on-demand lawyer app for people to use during traffic stops. Hampton was also on the legal team for Marvin Haynes, who was exonerated in 2023 for a 2004 murder in North Minneapolis.
In Hampton’s campaign announcement he said the City’s leadership is stuck and needs people outside of the “established local government” to lead.
“It’s like tires spinning in the snow,” Hampton said. “To get traction, we need new leadership, fresh ideas, and a renewed commitment to executing what the people of Minneapolis want and need.”
In Hampton’s campaign video he said he isn’t running against anyone.
“I am running for the city,” Hampton said. “Minneapolis is a city that I love.” Hampton and his family live in Southwest Minneapolis. Their two children attend Lake Harriet Elementary School.
There are now six candidates officially running for mayor in the Nov. 7, 2025 election.
