A team from Justice Page Middle School is competing at the Future City Competition Nationals. The 2022 theme was to create a zero-waste city using the circular economy.After winning first place in regionals, the team moved on to the national competition. Read about their imagined city called El Cusco Perdido, or The Lost Cusco, where the broken turns into the new, and the old turns into the future.
Melody talked with a community-based youth and family director who works directly with students and young adults that have a history of criminal behavior. To him, it’s all about relationship building and getting the children on a better track through culturally relevant work.

Newark, also under investigation by the Department of Justice, was placed them under a "consent decree", which allowed them to reset the department's culture, training, staffing, and accountability structure. The officers didn't fire their guns once in 2020.
Melissa Whitler covered this week's School Board meeting. At this week's meeting, the Board approved a new strategic plan after vigorous discussion around inequities. The board also voted to approve a new student calendar for the next three school years that includes new professional development days and the inclusion of more holidays. There was also an hour of public comments about the union contracts and the length of the superintendent's contract.

There is a fundraiser for the family of North Community High School sophomore Deshaun Hill Jr. who died yesterday after being shot on Wednesday.
