Did you enjoy the warm weather on Sunday? Hold those memories close as we are under a Winter Storm Warning through Tuesday night. According to Ron Trenda at MPR, Minneapolis will see more snow tomorrow than today. Minneapolis is forecasted to get 1-2 inches of snow today and 4-6 inches tomorrow. Check your favorite local weather source for any updates to snow totals. Temps will be in the 10s for the rest of the week.

Charlie, Andrew and I visited Stevens Square on Friday, which was our first stop on our neighborhood listening tour. If you're on Instagram, follow us at @swvoicesmpls and watch our Instagram story highlighting our neighborhood tour. Some food/beverage news that we want to share from our tour:

  • According to some workers we ran into, Tibet Kitchen on Nicollet Ave. is permanently closed, as of a week ago.
  • Starting today, Boiler Room Coffee on 3rd Ave. is going back to its regular hours, 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m.-5 p.m. weekends.
  • Andrew thoroughly enjoyed his shrimp boil at Cajun Boiling.

Education Minnesota, the umbrella union that includes the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers, nominated two Minneapolis educators for its Teacher of the Year Award. Edward Barlowe, a music teacher at Anwatin Middle School, and Aberdeen Rodriguez, an English teacher at Edison High School,  were nominated alongside 75 other educators.  The winner will be honored at the Minnesota Teacher of the Year banquet in May.

Counselor Janetter Vyhanek from Anwatin Middle School was also named the Minnesota Middle School counselor of the year by the Minnesota School Counselor Association.  Last week, MFT teachers and education support professionals voted overwhelming to authorize a strike if union contract negotiations continue to stall with the district.

OUT & ABOUT
a Bird in Hand is collaborating with Jordan Kinsel from Cardamom for a pop-up at St. Genevieve tonight.

A personal recommendation to see the exhibit, Human Toll: A Public History of 35W, at the Hennepin History Museum in Whittier. The exhibit explores community resistance/resilience and illustrates how freeway construction destroyed and divided Black communities across the United States, amplifying the effects of systemic racism that are still felt today.
