A small segment of Lyndale Avenue between 29th Street and Lake Street was shut down yesterday after a man fired shots from a Lime Apartments balcony, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara. O’Hara said that two victims–the man’s ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend–were shot at but not injured.
Officers were flagged down by witnesses immediately after the shooting and responding officers were unsure if the man was still in the apartment at the time. Once investigators found out the man was no longer in the area, the lockdown was lifted.
“Officers were able to make contact with the suspect via phone and our crisis negotiators were on the phone with the individual for some time,” O’Hara said at a press conference yesterday.
A Minneapolis Police Department press release referenced that a “tragedy” occurred after the man fled the apartment building but no details were given.
According to reporting by Bring Me The News, Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office said they believe the man stopped at a residence in Kandiyohi County and shot and injured a man. He then attempted a carjacking on Highway 71 and fatally shot the driver. He was arrested southeast of Willmar, Minnesota and is being held on multiple charges including murder. Kandiyohi County is a two-hour drive west of the LynLake area.
